Definitely worth getting one of those upconverting DVD players, particularly if your tv doesn’t have that built into its circuits already. If you haven’t ordered already, I got the Panasonic DVD S52S for around $99 via RadioShack. I just watched the first two disks of season one of 24 (since I didn’t start watching until last season), and the details are much sharper playing the DVDs on the new Panasonic upconverting player than they were on my older RCA player.

Yeah, I think that’s actually through Target though. Amazon doesn’t have it themselves. When I checked with them, they only had the S52K, not the S52S model, and I’d have had to pay shipping. But mostly I bought it at my local radio shack store to support the island economy since the owner told me he couldn’t match the Amazon price I got on the plasma screen I’d wanted to buy locally from them.

And I’m going to resist the urge to poke fun at someone for spending $60+ more than they needed to for a good upconverting dvd player. I guess that’s just what comes from reading old Popular Mechanics… I haven’t trusted them since I realized we’re not getting those flying cars they said we’d all have when I was a kid.
